The controversial plan to increase probate fees  has been scrapped ahead of the snap election.

The Ministry of Justice said there was now not enough time for the legislation to go through Parliament. However, it is not yet known if the proposed scheme to increase Probate fees from £215 to as much as £20,000 will be brought back if the Conservatives are re-elected.

Mark Williams, of Worcestershire based Amba Legal Services, said: “We are committed to supporting families dealing with the loss of a loved one and are pleased that the government has taken the decision to ditch these fees. We feel that the raising of those fees would have resulted in an increased financial burden for ordinary families at a time of great distress.”act-now-save-later
